While they each have their charm, Duke Nukem 3D feels like it has the most personality of the three. The interactivity of the world and and finding little hidden jokes makes it feel alive in a way the other two just don’t quite capture.
The humor in Duke is just more timeless. t’s cheesy, sure, but it never feels forced as it’s part of the character.

I was having a discussion with some friends and a question came up: what truly separates a boomer shooter from say…a modern shooter.
At first, this was easy. No regenerating health, no ADS, etc. Then they asked me this question: what about halo CE? Or F.E.A.R? What about games like CULTIC?
If I made a boomer shooter where all the guns had ADS but they also had alt fires, would that count? What about upgrades? What truly defines boomer shooters as a genre?
Do they have to follow old school design philosophies? Or can it take from newer genres (looter shooters, extraction shooters, etc).

Hey all, It’s kind of a mix between Serious Sam and Gunfire Reborn — short, action-packed combat sequences with upgrade phases in between. I’ve been trying to make the upgrades feel meaningful. For example, if you upgrade your existing weapon, you unlock a completely unique ability (up to level 3, so 2 abilities per weapon). You can also pick from various movement upgrades (like double jump, dash, wall jump), plus a range of passive upgrades. The overall flow is shown in the latter half of the video, if anyone’s curious. I’m also planning a synergy system — sort of like Vampire Survivors — where if you’ve got a maxed-out weapon and the right max level passive, you unlock a more powerful version. Update 3 for DOOM: The Dark Ages introduces Ripatorium 2.0, offering additional Encounter Presets, deeper customization options, additional jukebox tracks and the ability to share your custom encounters on a per-round basis via Passcode sharing.
This update also includes Campaign quality-of-life updates such as the Brink of Death feature now selectable between Normal and Hard settings via the Difficulty tab, plus player-requested updates including bindable inputs for your active Melee Weapon and Shield Rune.

We’ve added even more ways to customize the Ripatorium arena mode, including the ability to share and load presets from each round via our Passcode sharing*.
The Ripatorium is now round-based, with players customizing a selection of enemies they will face for up to five rounds

Each Ripatorium round can have unique settings and up to 10 respawn waves

In the Settings menu, we’ve added new options for Time Limit

Each round also features a unique Passcode (highlighted in the image below) that allows you to share your custom Ripatorium round and all its settings with other players

*Please note Ripatorium Passcode sharing is in Beta
To play someone else’s Ripatorium encounter, select the corresponding round and press the newly added “Enter New Passcode” input at the bottom of the screen

There are also new Encounter Presets to choose from: Medium, Challenging and Sadistic
Note: You can enable these Encounter Presets in conjunction with any Difficulty Level

So I just really miss the Soldier of Fortune series so much lately because the games challenged the player to think strategically before jumping in.
Like for starters, saving was very limited because players could only save their game a few times during each level as the first two games were quite difficult as a result, so I was looking for a spiritual successor of sorts.

Considering that this computer is pretty low-end I want to know, if I can get to run Ion Fury. Searching for the requirements I came across that: the minimum RAM is 1GB while the recommended is 2. That’s ok, this PC can handle it. However I want to know if this is 4 real… only 100MB are necessary?
Really? 4 this 2019 game you only need that amount? This shockes me because IIRC a game such as Half-Life is like a bit more of 500MB. If this is true, then that is a win for me. Oh, here’s the last thing…
The laptop’s CPU is an Intel Celeron N3450. I understand is not precisely one of the bests on the market. Will I still be able to run Ion Fury with it?

I’ve been pretty working on my computer science degree, so I’ve not had much time to work on the game. That aside, I have gotten some stuff done-
I re-wrote most of how bullets work, so now they can turn in the air and ricochet. There are some bugs to work out with how ricochet works along surfaces like curved arches, but other than that I’m quite happy with it. The shotgun now fires bullets that curve chaotically in the air like scraps of paper or coins, and are very likely to ricochet. Firing lots of bullets lags the game, I’ve gotta fix that.
I revised the dithering shader, as the old one only worked right when the game was 1920 pixels wide.
I also did some level design and designed several props. I’m getting the hang of certain engine features and an add-on, that together will let me design levels much faster than in Lunamarine 1, at the cost of arranging architecture and props on one or more grids, and not having overhanging terrain.
And lastly I designed and implemented a scripting language for handing dialogue. It’s pretty jank, but it’s better than what Toby Fox did, although it only has it’s most basic functions implemented currently. I expect the system to be pretty prominent in the game, as I want some RPG mechanics, like in Ashes Afterglow- and I want to show off the outfits I’ve been designing.
