Edit: For Steam Deck users experiencing a crash after installing Update 2 — we’re currently working on a solution.
In the meantime, in order to still access the game, we’ve made the previous build: Update 1 available for download in the Steam Beta Branch.
Step by step instructions for Steam Deck users wanting to temporarily roll back to Update 1:
  1. Select “Properties” from Gear icon
  2. When Properties screen pops up, select a Beta category and choose a “last-version – Last update to temporarily work around Steam Deck issues” under “Beta participation” drop-down menu. There is no password necessary for this beta branch

Edit: The optional DOS version was temporary unavailable during the initial Update 2 release window, but has since been corrected!

Update 2 adds Multiplayer Mod support for DOOM + DOOM II and game improvements/fixes!

Improvements

Multiplayer Mods
  • Hosts need to activate the mod before entering the multiplayer menu 
  • Players will need to subscribe to the same mod before joining a match 
  • We recommend using room codes to join modified matches 
  • Mods must be authored with Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21 or BOOM to be compatible

 

General
  • Resolved an issue in which some red doors did not display as red on the automap
  • Fixed multiple crashes reported by the community when loading game saves
  • Improved text line wrapping legibility for mod descriptions in Asian languages
  • Removed map prefix from intermission screen to be consistent with original game behavior
Multiplayer
  • Added spectator mode when players are dead and waiting to respawn in co-op mission play (it can also be initiated manually from the scoreboard button)
  • Fixed an issue in which disabling the crosshair would also turn off player name and co-op respawn text display
  • There are now more than 4 player colors available in game and on scoreboards
  • Resolved an issue in which players would lose weapons when respawning in co-op using modern rules
  • Fixed an issue in which the cross-platform friends menu could not be properly backed out of when no friends were available
  • Further optimized multiplayer networking code
  • Addressed crosshair centering issue in certain splitscreen configurations
  • Intermission animations now run at the correct speed in splitscreen mode
Modsl
  • The mod downloader can now process more than the first 100 subscribed mods

For Mod Creators on PC
  • Mod screenshots with spaces and other non-alphanumeric characters in their file names will now upload correctly in most cases
Mod Compatibility Updates
  • MBF21 instant kill sectors were incorrectly killing non-enemy actors
  • MBF21 instant kill sectors will fire immediately when a monster enters them, instead of waiting
  • BOOM and MBF21 effects that kill monsters will deal 1 million damage instead of 10000 damage in order to fix mods that used monsters with high HP values to create an invulnerable enemy
  • BOOM generic floor actions were not selecting the right neighbor when finding which sector ceiling or floor height they needed to move to
  • Players can hurt and shoot projectiles at their own voodoo dolls (aka player model / clone), to be consistent with the original game
  • ENTERPIC in UMAPINFO is correctly shown for the map you are entering instead of the map you just left
  • DeHackEd strings for BOOM keys can now be replaced through DEH patches
  • BOOM line action 242 (Deep water) will now transfer ceiling and floor lighting
  • Now avoids crashing for invalid sized demos when playing the demoloop
  • Maps using DMAPINFO will print the map name on automap, level select, and savegames
  • Changing DeHackEd ammo type will now actually change the ammo type
  • Fixed Berzerk Factor not calculating correctly in the A_WeaponMeleeAttack MBF21 codepointer
  • Fixed BTSX Episode 1 and Episode 2 demo playback not rendering fullscreen
  • Mods that override DOOM (1993) Episodes 1-3 will use the correct intermission screen
  • MBF21 A_Lower codepoint now checks for an invalid weapon before changing weapons if out of ammo

Hey Warlocks,

Let’s start 2025 with a banger of a patch for Project Warlock II. After the last round of fixes aimed to fix the sound issues, we realized that the source of the problem was hidden deep in the code. We made a decision to rewrite the monster audio code to address a number of sound issues that appeared after the Chapter 2 Rework. We’ve extensively tested the fix and everything seems to work correctly on our end. If you happen to still encounter audio issues of any kind, make sure to let us know.

We’ve also added some new sound effects that just feel right to be included, such as the sound effect for falling and a heartbeat when your HP is low.

Apart from the audio improvements, we’re bringing some new visuals. We’re happy with the reception of the new HUD, it’s awesome. However, we made a last minute call before launching the Chapter 2 Rework to hold back with the updated Palmer portrait, as it needed some more time in the oven at that time.

With this patch, we’re introducing a new mugshot for Palmer, as well as mugshot animations for both Palmer and Urd. The disciples will react to what is happening in the game, they will look around, get angry, happy, or… bloody.

We’ve also overhauled treasure items in both Chapters, for more visual variety.

Without further ado, here are the Patch Notes:

  • Rewritten monster audio code to address the audio issues
  • Added Audio Occlusion to monsters
    • Monsters behind walls/in different rooms are deafened
  • Added heartbeat effect when HP is low
  • Added falling sound effect

Levels
  • Added an autosave point before the blue key in E1M4

Textures
  • Overhauled treasure items in Chapter 1
  • Overhauled treasure items in Chapter 2

HUD
  • Added new mugshot for Palmer
  • Added animations for Palmer’s Mugshot in the HUD – check out some of them:
  • Added animations for Urd’s Mugshot in the HUD – get a sneak peek

Fixes
  • Fixed an issue with controller look sensitivity range
  • Fixed an issue with male human NPC’s not being visible

When it comes to Kirsten’s adventures, we’re currently in the final stages of polishing the Chapter 3, and we’re sure you’ll be able to experience it in a matter of weeks.

Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year!

I’ve been very excited to get this devlog out and show off what has quickly become the largest and most resource-intensive map in CULTIC’s development. I thought the Shopping Center would be the king of asset bloat but this one is giving it a run for its money for sure.

Enjoy New Grandewel’s annual Christmas Festival, hosted at the Castle Grandewel Medieval Faire! This sprawling renaissance fair is located in the Fairgrounds, and has players fighting through several cult-controlled attractions to restore power and gain entry to the fortified Castle Grandewel.
