Does anyone know where I can find the models for the characters in Quake III Arena? I’m specifically trying to find a model of Uriel, but I’m not sure if there even is a way to get the models beyond just seeing them in the game. I’m wanting to find them to make a reference in a project of mine of the MD3 test mobs Notch used in Minecraft at one point, but I looked for a while on my computer and couldn’t find anything. If there’s no other way I could try to just remake the Uriel model from scratch in blender or something, but I’m not very good at making models yet.

Playing Quake for the first time. It's really cool, I think it's great to see old games and how they were the peak of their time. However, I have a problem, where's my hud ?

I’ve already finished Postal 2/Brain Damaged, Doom 2016/64, Shadow Warrior 1/2, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, Half-Life 1/2, and now Quake.

Boomer shooters are my favorite genre, so I want to play at least one game from each classic franchise in the genre. I’m only missing Serious Sam, Duke Nukem, Hexem/Heretic, and, although not classics, UltraKill and “BRAZILIAN DRUG DEALER 3: I OPENED A PORTAL TO HELL IN THE FAVELA TRYING TO REVIVE WITH MIT AIA I NEED TO CLOSE IT,” which are also on the list.

I’m at the beginning of Quake 1, and as the title says, it’s pretty cool. I found it to have a really good vibe, that kind of game energy you play with your cousin at Christmas. But as I said, the game’s HUD isn’t showing up for me. I haven’t had many problems with it so far, but I think in the future I’ll need to know how much ammo I have and things like that. Does anyone know what it could be?

Hammerite Haunt (Thief: The Dark Project)

Hope this counts as a boomer shooter. You definitely can shoot arrows and it got featured along FPS games back then!

It’s a model I did some time ago, representing more or less how I imagined Thief 2 would have looked. Unfortunately, as great a game as it was, it had no visual evolution.

In modern times I see a lot of boomer shooters that tend to be kind of ugly, with cheap “programmer art”, so this is also my grain of sand of how I’d love them to look. I hope you like it!

This is a resubmission of a previous post I had made.

– Gameplay centered around engaging cunning enemies in shootouts.

– Moderately powered weapons, not too many overpowered guns that overshine the rest of the arsenal.

– Grounded setting, preferably urban but can be fantasy or sci-fi if the maps are really coherent and grounded (like Thief).

– Levels that are open-ended or come with open-ended approaches.

Games besides sIn, Kingpin, Half-Life, FEAR and the original Deus Ex. Doesn’t have to a boomer shooter either.

I was playing Bright Island on Classics: Revolution, got to the first secret level and got the Secret mine launcher. After I wanted to give it a try, the game crashed. I asked for Steam to close it: nothing happened. I wanted to use task manager: didn’t bother to appear. Black screen appeared, but start desktop was there.

I did the unthinkable and pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL. Now I have to wait more to sign up and it’s been 15 minutes.

Croteam should have fixed this a long time ago.

Hey guys! Finished Eternal’s DLCs recently (hope to play TDA soon) and I was wondering. Given that Doom and Wolfenstein used to share lore – BJ being Doomguys descendant if I remember correctly, with Machinegames reboot though it is never mentioned – do Heretic/Hexen share any lore/setting with Doom? Could they possible integrate their lore in the Doom setting if not?

PS. Have never played the games, just seen some people describe them as Doom with magic and that’s more than enough for me!

PSA: If you started getting denoising issues with path tracing in the Ripatorium update, try disabling Variable Rate Shaders.

BLUF.

I was running path-tracing on my trusty 4080 for a couple months before the Ripatorium 2.0 update seemingly completely borked it; I was getting really bad noise issues which completely ruined the experience of the game, and tweaking my denoising & updating my drivers didn’t fix it. I didn’t feel like just disabling path tracing, though, so I just set the game aside for a while.

A couple months later, I finally reinstalled it, thinking they might have finally fixed the problem (which no one seemed to be talking about)… and nothing. But then I tried just disabling Variable Rate Shaders (which I wasn’t sure the function of, anyway), and… voilà. No more noise issues.

the guns were more realistic. in 1993 we had the remington 870 and the beretta M9. we also had a relatively real looking chaingun. if i was rocking an M4 with an ACOG and a grenade launcher on it, i’d feel a lot more badass.

or if i was blasting demons to bits with a classic model remington 870 i’d feel more like an old hick on his farm shooting the filthy businessmen who come to sell him off.

They do 1 damage but can send huge metal cubes, Glory kill Punch a demon making it explode, Kill a litteral Goddess, Break God’s mech
