/r/BoomerShooters Subreddit — Selaco – I don’t get the hype tbh – From /r/BoomerShooters

I posted this opinion some time ago on a Quake Discord and got utterly roasted for it. Just outright roasted. The issue I had was that Selaco tries to create highly detailed environments, but because it’s doing so within the limits of the Doom engine, it leads to problems like bumping into level geometry that’s meant to be decorative and difficulty distinguishing between superficial detail and elements that actually matter. It’s not game breaking by any means but it’s still just irritating enough to be annoying.
On top of that, the game suffers from the same problem many of these Doom-like games have: the maps can be hard to navigate and often feel too maze-like. I basically criticized the game for having the worst of both worlds when it comes to old-school and new-school shooters e.g. it’s a largely modern shooter but you still end up wandering aimlessly through maze-like levels.
Still, it seems my opinion is in the minority.
Am I mostly alone in my opinion or did others just not care for this game?
