Hi,

With the Heretic+Hexen re-release, I was getting curious about Hexen’s excellent sound design and I wondered if someone ever tried to find the source of Hexen’s sound effects.

Such lists are available for Doom (https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Origins_of_Doom_sounds) and Heretic (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1K1X_fqZGSf5aK0I5B-wYtxTYQGF5-HwKdukgPbBbeok), but I couldn’t find anything for Hexen.

I guess most sounds come from the Sound Ideas Series 6000 library as it looks like Kevin Schilder’s main source, but there are thousands of sounds in it, it’s like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Do you know if there’s a list available somewhere?

EDIT: Lol, I just found the Ettin’s pain sound. It’s from a camel sound, just like Doom’s zombies: https://soundideas.sourceaudio.com/track/7620258

I’m standing at the door to exit the Smell of Petroleum Prevails level (first level). I didn’t go to the secondary task “visit the 2nd oil rig”.

It’s still listed there, but I can’t find a way to get back. Anyone know a way to get back or is it lost?

Meant for it to be: Might be an Unpopular Opinion, but I Don’t Think the Eternal Praetor Suit Looked as Good as the 2016 Praetor Suit.

I’d been thinking it for a while, but a video I recently watched made me want to get my opinion out there. The video was a MK1 video (of all things): https://youtu.be/5vRkRisOvIY

I noticed while using the Eternal suit skin, he didn’t look as nice as he did when he was wearing the 2016 suit. To me, it just felt like a night and day difference.

Not really complaining TBH since I can just get the 2016 Praetor Suit in Eternal, I just want to know if I’m alone in this thought. Is it just me? Do any of you guys agree?

Like, I can’t necessarily put my finger on it. Maybe it’s the fact the 2016 Praetor Suit covers his whole body and looks as if it has more protection.

psp.pk3???? (not for playstation portable)

I cant find any information on this pk3 anywhere, im assuming because of the portable game console from on yonder ago with the same name, i found it on the internet archives, there is a wad and pk3, ive only ran the pk3, it runs well in gzdoom-x64-g4.15pre-505-gf30fc8dd0 one of the most recent gzdoom dev builds found on the DRD Team Development site.

Reddit doesnt like the link, so look up best-ever org WAD archive part P on the internet archives and click show all under download options for the list where youll find the pk3. Also, make sure to connect the best-ever and org with a period or it wont show up in the search.

I guess im just curious if anyone knows who did this, when it was released and if they still make wads, or if any of yall got any similar ones to suggest at least. I really like the pacing in this one so far. Dreary mountain cave with a uac base internalised going back and forth between the darkness of the caves to the bright metallic hallways of the base from what ive seen so far, its quite surreal.

I’m 21, I tried doom 93 for the first time in the early 2010s on the ps2, after having played modern-ish games of that time. And I was super impressed, it had a unique aesthetic, but back then I played the first missions without sprinting, and didn’t even know you can sprint. I saw it as a slow paced, calculated survival horror shooter, the psx ost really sold that vibe. However once I found out that you can sprint, and you’re expected to, and that the PC version has a badass non-horror ost and supports that playstyle… it just killed it for me. The comedically fast sprinting not only feels super weird, but also gives me motion sickness, along with the fact that it feels like a totally different game.

If anyone has any doom style game suggestions that are slow paced, either new-ish or retro style graphics, or even slow-paced doom wads. Feel free to suggest me some, cuz I really liked that atmosphere of doom on the playstation. On the contrary doom 2016 and eternal are perfect imo.
