Hi all. I learned about the expansion Legacy of Rust, that had Id Software’s involvment, and I found it amazing, but, I did not ever find anything on the storyline. Thanks to the youtube channel Woodyisasexybeast, who provided a nice video of the storyline, I am sharing with you what I learned. The UAC had tech to open portals, and they surveyed Hell to find resources to explore, including material for nukes, a kind of hellish uranium. The region was named ‘New Eden’, since they believed they could explore it without major problems, away from the events in Doom I and II. However, they were unaware of the reason the usual demons (Imps, Pinkies, Lost Souls, etc) did not go to such region. There were beasts way more dangerous, namely the Vassago – a kind of an oversized bat, scorched body, bat wings, flamy hands and a bull skull for head. The UAC installed a base in this region, called ‘the Crown Jewel’, since they found a high profitable site. A huge base was installed by a blood-like substance waterfall, where it powered the whole facility. A nuclear lab and a nuclear missile site were also installed for defense and test purposes, and another portal equipment at the missile site. The exploration works awakened the Vassagos, and another hell invasion took place. Doomguy was sent to Mars, and through a portal, he accessed the hell site. After a tiring journey, he was captured by the Vassagos and managed to escape. Then, he learned the base site was being taken by hell, as the Phobos and Deimos facilities – tech walls changing to green marble, gargoyles and horned skull panels, including the nuclear labs, which were turning in a soul silo (the 13th level). And finally he discovered the hell uranium. Decided to end this mess, he fought the remaining Vassagos, set the nuclear missiles to auto destruct and closed the portal. It is said about 70% of hell became history, and it could be related to the events in Doom 64. Such a nice story, and I found a nice catch to have nukes in hell.
